There are many things about farm life that are unexpected. In fact, nearly everything except for sweat and uncertainty, are part of the surprises when starting a farm. But one of the consistent joys is the presence of community and friendship in unexpected places. Farmers help each other. They share equipment, experience, and time when it is available.
My friend from church, Andrea Lodge, volunteered to help tend to our garden one hot afternoon during our recent drought. The joy of receiving this sacrificial gift of fellowship and effort is almost inexpressible.
